The Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) model provides a win-win-win-win environment for the Student Nurse, Clinical Faculty, the DEU Nurse/Clinical Expert and the Healthcare System. Based on the notion that “it takes a village to raise a Nurse,” the DEU model requires collaboration between the University Faculty and our Healthcare Service Partners. Students have noted, “All the staff want me to be successful.” and “I feel like a member of the team.”
The DEU is an innovative clinical environment which requires the engagement of all the staff to provide the students with the best setting for clinical learning. Core values of the UB DEU model, mutually agreed upon by the clinical partners are Flexibility, Interdependence, Mutual Respect and Shared Goals.
