Hello to all Gamma Kappa members,
The 2012-2013 season for Gamma Kappa has started. Our Board has met on Monday, September 17 to create this next year's plans.
The issues we have been working on are: 1. Deciding on a Community Project that will have sustainability and as of September 18 we have adopted the Kathleen Mary House in Batavia, NY. It is a transitional House that opened its doors to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence and need safe, short-term housing. We would like to collect items on the Kathleen Mary House's "wish list": cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paper products, kleenex, paper towels, toilet paper, light bulbs, gift certificates, postage stamps, or gift cards. In-kind donations may also be given. Please drop off any of these items to the Center for Nursing Research in 201 Wende Hall on the South Campus of the University at Buffalo. We will also continue to collect pies for the Buffalo City Mission in November for Thanksgiving Dinner. 2. Induction Ceremony will take place at the Center For Tomorrow on Friday, November 16 and planning is ongoing. 3. Research presentations will be offered on 2 occasions: (1) Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 12-1 pm in 111 Wende Hall when Sook Ja Yang, PhD, Visiting Scholar will present "Developing a Measure of Health Literacy" and (2) Friday, March 22, 2013 the School of Nursing and Gamma Kappa sponsor a Research Day in the Center for Tomorrow. 4. STTI Key Award
Being a member of this Honor Society is a privilege, so please become an active member. The society is only as good as it's members! Please: if you have any questions, please email me at cccurran@buffalo.edu.
Joint UB School of Nursing and STTI Volunteer Project
The UB School of Nursing through Sigma Theta Tau Gamma Kappa Chapter has been collecting cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, toiletries and gift cards for the Kathleen Mary House. The Kathleen Mary House is a transitional house located in the Southtowns of WNY that opened its doors to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence and need safe, short-term housing. This project is ongoing and donations large and small can be dropped off at the UB School of Nursing in the Center for Nursing Research on the second floor of Wende Hall (South Campus) at any time. This is a very worthwhile cause and any and all donations will benefit families in the WNY area and are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Cyndy Curran, RN, MS
