Nursing Education Xchange (NEXus) Enrollment Information

The University at Buffalo School of Nursing is a member of the Nursing Education Xchange (NEXus).

NEXus is collaboration between participating doctoral programs in nursing that allows doctoral students enrolled at member colleges and universities to take courses that may not be offered at his/her home institution for a common price. Our NEXus campus staff coordinator (see contact information at bottom of page) facilitates the registration and transcription of these courses from partner institutions.

Financial Considerations

The current rate for a NEXus course is $775.00 per semester credit and is adjusted to $517.00 per quarter credit. This fee is intended to cover all associated university fees such as technology, library or application fees. As with all courses, you are responsible for the cost of your books and educational materials.

Registration Deadlines

You (the student) are responsible for meeting the registration and payment deadlines of the institution that is offering the course. In most cases, this will not coincide with UB’s calendar, so advanced planning financially and academically is critical. Click here for a complete list of registration deadlines.

Academic Considerations

  • Decisions about selecting a NEXus course must be made in consultation with your academic advisor/committee chair.
  • Students enrolled in a NEXus course must meet all course requirements.
  • Students are encouraged to contact the course faculty in advance to ensure that they understand the course requirements. (For example: prerequisite courses, vacation periods, on-campus requirements, technology requirements, synchronous versus asynchronous discussions.)

For UB students wishing to enroll at other institutions

  1. Check the NEXus website for a list of current course offerings.
  2. Obtain approval from your academic advisor to enroll in your selected course(s).
  3. Submit a completed NEXus Tracking Form to UB’s Campus Staff Coordinator, Jennifer VanLaeken (Jhv2@buffalo.edu), in addition to the teaching institution’s campus staff coordinator.
  4. Check the NEXus website or contact the teaching institution’s campus staff coordinator to get started on completing the steps necessary for enrollment at that particular institution.

*Note: If you plan to drop a class, you must notify BOTH your home institution AND teaching institution campus staff coordinators by the drop deadline.
