After the first spring semester, graduate students enter the clinical residency component of the program. Clinical residents provide anesthesia care to a diverse population of patients and are involved in an expansive range of clinical anesthesia experiences within multiple practice settings. These clinical experiences include opportunities to learn and perform the most current anesthesia techniques (including general and regional anesthesia) along with the full range of advanced monitoring techniques. The breadth of their clinical experience and the diversity of the clinical resources of the program combine to make UB graduates highly marketable and well prepared to evaluate critically the practice opportunities and settings best suited to their interests and career goals.

In their final semester of study, graduate students participate in a capstone clinical experience‹an Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management program. This high-fidelity simulation experience, offered within the program's Patient Simulation Center, builds upon the clinical skills mastered by students within the program, and provides them with an educational experience available at few programs elsewhere.

Our extensive and diverse range of clinical affiliations further enriches the clinical training of our students. Our clinical residents practice in a wide range of settings‹large metropolitan teaching hospitals, community healthcare settings, governmental and private healthcare facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, office-based practices, in rural and urban settings — with patients of all ages, with the full spectrum of anesthesia care needs. Our graduate students are educated in all areas of nurse anesthesia practice, including the administration of regional anesthesia, which makes them highly marketable, ready to provide the full range of anesthesia services in any practice setting they choose.
