The best way to learn about nurse anesthesia is by talking to those who practice ithttp://www.aana.com/.

2. How can I learn more about the University at Buffalo, the School of Nursing, and the nurse anesthetist program?
For information about UB, visit the university's website at http://www.buffalo.edu/.

nurse-studentaffairs@buffalo.edu
.

3. Is a bachelor's degree in nursing required for admission to the program?
Yes. Students with bachelor's degrees in other disciplines are not eligible for admission.

4. What type of clinical experience is required for entry into the program?
A minimum of one year of critical care experience is required. This experience is most often acquired within an intensive care unit, where the applicant has been involved in advanced assessment and clinical decision-making based on the interpretation of advanced hemodynamic monitoring and diagnostic assessment. Applicants often possess more than one year of supportive critical care experience.

5. Are all applicants invited to the school for a personal interview?
No. Applications are reviewed to determine eligibility for an interview.

6. Can I begin my program of study by taking a couple of courses prior to entering the program?
In certain circumstances, taking coursework on a nonmatriculated basis is appropriate. Advisement should be sought prior to this decision. Importantly, nonmatriculated coursework does not assure entry into the program.

7. Can I complete this program on a part-time basis?
Part-time study is an option available on a limited basis, and only for the first preclinical year. Students seeking full-time study are given priority consideration for admission.

8. Do I have to take all of the courses before I begin the clinical residency?
All coursework listed under first year, fall and spring (see left) must be completed before beginning the clinical residency.

9. Can I work part time during the program?
The nurse anesthetist program is extremely demanding and does not afford time for employment outside the program.

10. How affordable is the program?
As a public university, UB is very affordable. To further help meet expenses, financial aid is offered through both the School of Nursing and the university's Office of Financial Aid. To apply and determine eligibility, contact the Office of Student Affairs at nurse-studentaffairs@buffalo.edu or (716) 829-2537 and the university's Office of Financial Aid at http://wings.buffalo.edu/services/finaid or (716) 829-3724.

11. Where have recent graduates found employment and at what salary?
Recent graduates have found positions at hospitals in Western New York and across the United States. Beginning salaries within this specialty are often $100,000 and above.
