The Neonatal Nurse Practitioners Program offers the
The NNP program will be offered fall, 2007 as a part-time curriculum well suited to the schedule of the working nurse. Contact Dr. Elaine R. Cusker, Assistant Dean for a sample curriculum.
Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) are one of the first health care professionals to provide care to newborns and their families. The NNP manages a caseload of neonatal patients in consultation and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and with medical supervision by a physician. Using the acquired knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physiology, the NNP exercises independent judgment in the assessment and diagnosis of infants and in the performance of certain delegated procedures. As an advanced practice nurse, the NNP is also involved in education, consultation, and research.

* Credits cannot be transferred into a certificate program. A maximum number of 35 credit hours is required to complete the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner advanced certificate. However, credits may be waived if the individual’s transcript indicates that the required course or its equivalent has been taken within the last 10 years. Only the faculty member teaching the required course can determine equivalency of content during a formal review process, initiated by the student. Despite the number of courses that are permitted to be waived, all students in this program must complete at least 12 credit hours and 300 clinical hours, all which must be taken at the University at Buffalo. No other exemptions are allowed, or will be considered.
