Area of Research:
Dr. Nelson’s research is focused on adolescent health care decision making, especially in the area of health care utilization and illness recognition. Her doctoral research was on instrument development. The CROSS scale (Caregiver Recognition of Symptom Severity) was developed for use with adolescents who are responsible for caring for children, especially teen parents. She is currently focusing on developing a teaching intervention to use with teen parents to better help them manage their children’s illnesses and use appropriate health care services.
