The 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award was given to Rear Admiral Rebecca McCormick-Boyle, Chief of Staff, Navy, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, and UB School of Nursing Class of ’81 at the Annual UBSON May Celebration. The reception was held at the Jacob’s Development Center on May 15, 2013. Other honorees included Mary Anne Heiser, MS, RN, BS ’77 recipient of the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Service and Celene Cannon-Tinder, FNP-C, BS ’03 recipient of the Distinguished Preceptor Award.

Distance learning student Jodie Emerson presents a poster at Sigma Theta Tau International’s 26^th Annual Nursing Research & Scholarly Activities Conference.  One of the biggest critiques of distance learning is that students are precluded from being a part of some of the professional socialization and “extras” of campus life.  Thanks to the technology and support, we demonstrated that distance students can be an integral part of our professional associations and local professional socialization as well.
