12-month program brought back by popular demand and workforce needs

The University at Buffalo School of Nursing has received approval by the State Education Department and the State University of New York to reinstate its 12-month online RN-BS program.

The program is designed specifically for nurses who have completed a community college (associate's degree) or hospital-based nursing program (diploma) and have passed the New York State licensure examination (NCLEX-RN) for registered nurses.

This program is designed specifically for nurses who have already successfully completed a community college (associate’s degree) or hospital based (diploma) nursing program, and have passed the State licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) for registered nurses (RN). This program both supplements and builds upon the core nursing knowledge and skills all RNs achieve prior to licensure.

We are pleased to announce the Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs has approved the University at Buffalo, School of Nursing Nurse Anesthesia Program to now offer a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP).  The COA, the national accrediting body for the nurse anesthesia specialty has formally announced the approval of the program and the application process is well underway.  We are currently accepting applications for the full-time, 36 month program scheduled to commence the summer of 2012 and anticipate the first cohort to be exceptional students from around the country.

2012 will be starting off with a magical visit to Disney World for two UB Nursing Students. But instead of riding the rides and seeing the sights, seniors Ellen Duane and Rachael Kaplan will be running through the park at 5:30am to raise money for Roswell.

Their story was featured on local CW 23 !

The two have been balancing training with their demanding class schedule for months and they remain motivated by thoughts of people they are running this race for.

Friday, December 2nd at Coles Restaurant, 1104 Elmwood Ave. Buffalo, NY from 9 pm until midnight. Tickets for this event are $25 and include an open bar and pizza. All proceeds go to Roswell with Chinese Auction items and raffle baskets including one with 2 Sabres tickets!

Wednesday, December 7th at Friendly's 4350 Maple Rd. Amherst, NY. Vouchers will be given out and individuals wishing to contribute must give the voucher to their server and receive 15% of their bill to be given to Roswell. There will be a 50/50 raffle at this event!

PLEASE COME OUT AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR Rachael Kaplan and Ellen Duane! They have been training hard for the 2012 Disney Half Marathon in Florida in January!

Two local nursing students have taken on the challenge of raising money for a worthy cause by competing in a half marathon and need your help!  Ellen Duane and Rachael Kaplan, senior nursing students at UB plan to run the 2012 Disney half marathon in Disney World, Florida to raise money and awareness for Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).  RPCI is one of the nation’s top comprehensive cancer centers, and is a leader in groundbreaking cancer research.  Roswell’s Team Cure Challenge captured the interest of the UB Nursing students who both want to make a difference and raise money for the cure. read more...

Ira Pearl Gunn a resident of El Paso, TX passed away Tuesday Oct 25th at the William Beaumont Army Hospital at the age of 84.

Widely recognized as a visionary and tireless advocate for the profession of nurse anesthesia, Gunn also is remembered fondly as a cherished friend and mentor to many. Her contributions to nurse anesthesia practice, research, education, publication, consultation, credentialing, and government relations have significantly contributed to the preservation and advancement of nursing and nurse anesthesia.

Maureen Kelly, MS, RN, OCN, NEA-BC received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Service for tireless efforts and contributions to the educational mission of the UB School of Nursing.  Maureen received this award at the Adam's Mark Hotel on October 21st in front of many of her colleagues and peers from Roswell Park Cancer Institute and UB School of Nursing. read more...
