Mission Statement Draft:
Gamma Kappa is a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, nursing's honor society.
Its purpose is to recognize the excellence of individual University at Buffalo undergraduate
and graduate nursing students and nurse leaders in the community.

The chapter serves its members by facilitating professional growth through the development, dissemination, and utilization of knowledge and through the provision of resources.
Chapter activities, supported by membership dues, promote high standards of nursing practice,
research, scholarship, and leadership in its members. They, in turn, positively influence the health and well-being of the community.

What is Sigma Theta Tau International? (from the society main page)
Sigma Theta Tau International is the honor society of nursing committed to fostering excellence, scholarship and leadership in nursing to improve health care worldwide. The Society promotes the use of nursing research in health care delivery and makes its resources available to all people and institutions interested in the latest knowledge in nursing care.

Sigma Theta Tau International was founded in 1922 and has a membership of more than 120,000 members active in more than 90 countries. It has chapters located at 523 college and university schools of nursing worldwide. 45% of the Society's members are clinicians, 20% are administrators or supervisors, and 19% are educators. 65% of its members hold master's and/or doctoral degrees.

Honor Society of Nursing, Gamma Kappa
Position Description

Induction Program Task Force, Member  

Goal of Position:

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the Induction Program

Responsibilities:

  • Identify date, place and time for Induction
  • Arrange site, food and flowers
  • Identify and arrange for a speaker at Induction
  • Participate in Induction

Timeframe:
           

  • Length of commitment: less than 1 year
  • Estimated total hours: ten hours over two months

Qualifications sought:

  • Member STTI
  • Faculty member who can identify eligible students 
  • Community Leader who can identify eligible candidates in the community

Benefits to the volunteer:

  • Networking with other Gamma Kappa members
  • Introduction of new members to the organization
