The University at Buffalo School of Nursing is consistently ranked among the top nursing programs in the country: U.S. News & World Report recently ranked us in the top third of graduate nursing schools—above every other public school in New York. Our faculty, who are active in both research and practice, bring the most current information to our clinical training and classroom discussions. Students explore recent developments in research, learn innovative practice techniques, and explore developing trends in health care and nursing.
The approximately 500 students in the School of Nursing are almost evenly divided between the undergraduate and graduate programs. The programs attract ethnically and racially diverse students from across the nation and internationally. The master's programs for family nurse practitioner and nurse anesthetist, for example, are the only graduate programs funded by the Indian Health Service for the education of Native American students. The undergraduate and graduate programs range from the Bachelor of Science degree, 5 combined degrees for RNs with associate degrees or diplomas in nursing, an accelerated baccalaureate program, 7 M.S. programs, 7 post master’s certificates, and a doctor of philosophy program. These programs emphasize the acquisition of clinical nursing expertise both for the beginner nurse as well as the experienced RN seeking advanced skills in practice and research in nursing outcomes. Students develop their ability to make decisions, practice creatively and imaginatively, and cope with change in a climate of scholarship, discovery and professional example.
