Carla Jungquist has been a nurse for 30 years. She is a family nurse practitioner who completed her PhD in Health Practice Research in 2008 from the Univeristy of Rochester.
Jungquist has a clinical practice at the Thompson Health Sleep Disorders Center, which evaluates and treats patients for all types of sleep disorders. She has over 10 years of experience in diagnosing and treating patients with chronic pain conditions, and is an expert in the delivery of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. Jungquist has co-authored a book, "Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia: Session by session treatment manual," which has been published in English and Spanish, and is pending in Korean, Chinese and Italian.
Her research interests are in the interaction of pain and sleep, especially in the arena of delivery of CBT-I as well as the neural basis for the interaction. Her post-doctoral work at the University of Rochester included coursework in cognitive sciences and neuroimaging as well as hands on training in functional imaging procedures and analysis.
She currently serves on the American Society for Pain Management Nursing expert consensus panel charged with writing clinical practice guidelines for monitoring patients at risk of opioid induced respiratory depression. Her research program is in the area of the interaction between pain and sleep.
