DNP Project

Why UB SON?

My decision to go to UB was based on school ranking, proximity to my home, the offering of a [nursing] doctoral program and the fact that many members of my family all graduated from UB.

Areas of Interest

My main interest is the management of anesthesia in an acute care setting and working with an interprofessional team to provide the best care possible to my patients. This interest was sparked by working many years in an acute care setting and shadowing many nurse anesthetists.

Professional Goals

I want to educate the public on CRNA roles and how they positively impact health care delivery. Successfully completing my didactic and clinical training in the specialty of anesthesia will also allow me to provide safe and competent care to all my patients and to educate the public on CRNA roles and how they positively impact health care delivery. Receiving my doctor of nursing practice degree will allow me to possibly teach future anesthesia students.

Health Care Impact

As a health care professional, I live by the creed of following evidenced-based practice. The University at Buffalo is an institution that encourages new research that can potentially lead to improved health care delivery. I plan on working very hard to research and assist in finding new ways to improve practice and impact policy that will ultimately provide for better patient care and healthier patient outcomes.

Grateful

The Schomburg Fellowship has been and continues to be extremely instrumental in helping me focus on my studies and achieve academic success. Being a husband and father of two young boys, deciding to seek higher education puts a huge financial strain on my family. However, with this scholarship's amazing help, I am able to excel and focus on my studies to achieve my professional goals while lessening the financial burden that is associated with higher education.
