Clinical Assistant Professor Laurie Connors and Assistant Professor Jessica Castner recently graduated from the 2015 National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) Summer Genetics Institute (SGI), which was held June 1 to 26 on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland.
The SGI, a Biotechnology Specialty program administered by the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences, includes lectures and lab training. This research-intensive molecular genetics program’s objectives include the use of molecular genetics methods in biobehavioral research; analysis of strategies used for genomic-based therapies; identification of strengths, weaknesses, and applications of genetic tests; and examination of ethical and legal issues related to genetic testing.
