Carla Jungquist Selected as Editorial Board Member for New ANA-NY Journal

Associate Professor Carla Jungquist, PhD, ANP-BC, FAAN, was selected as an editorial advisory board member for the American Nurses Association of New York’s (ANA-NY) new Journal of the American Nurses Association of New York (JANANY).

ANA-NY established the journal with the goal of “fostering high standards of nursing and promoting the professional and educational advancement of nurses to improve health care.” The open-access peer-reviewed scholarly international publication is set to publish its first issue in January 2021. Manuscripts in the areas of nursing practice, education, research and administration are being accepted until December 22, 2020.

Jungquist’s initial responsibilities are to actively assist in the launch of the journal and to help maintain a constant flow of manuscript submissions.

“The advancement of nursing science and practice depends on dissemination of research and scholarship projects,” says Jungquist. “Dissemination is necessary to establish evidenced based practices and education for nurses.”

Jungquist is also an editorial board member of the Journal of Pain Management Nursing and an active member of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Her research and practice center on promoting safe pain management, with a specific focus on the interdependent relationship among pain, sleep and opioids in hospitalized patients. She is the recipient of research grants from a range of organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and National Institutes of Health, and has been widely published. Jungquist is a co-author of the American Journal of Nursing’s special supplement on the state of acute pain management and was a site investigator for the Medtronic, Inc. sponsored PRediction of Opioid-induced respiratory Depression In patients monitored by capnoGraphY (PRODIGY) study that validated a tool for nurses to use in identifying hospitalized patients at risk for opioid-induced respiratory depression.

In addition to her roles as an educator and researcher, Jungquist is the UB School of Nursing’s adult gerontology nurse practitioner program coordinator and a nurse practitioner at Thompson Health Sleep Disorders Center.
