Articulation Agreement

The purposes of this agreement are:

  1. To attract qualified students to SUNY Genesee Community College, School of Nursing (track) and University at Buffalo, School of Nursing RN to BS track (SON);
  2. To facilitate the effective transition of transfer students holding an AAS in Nursing from SUNY GCC to University at Buffalo, SON BS in Nursing (RN to BS Program);
  3. To promote a continuous path to the BS in 10 NYS Requirement;
  4. To foster continuous communication between the respective academic departments/schools, facilitate curriculum changes when appropriate, and provide accurate and timely advisement for interested students.

Terms of the Agreement:

University at Buffalo, School of Nursing agrees to accept all students who have earned the Associate of Science (AAS) in Nursing from SUNY Genesee Community College with full junior standing when transferring to the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing with the following terms.

University at Buffalo, School of Nursing will:

  1. Accept all credit-bearing college level courses from regionally accredited institutions of higher learning towards the baccalaureate degree upon award of the associate degree from GCC.
  2. Provide a secondary review of a candidate's record if they do not meet the minimum 2.5 preferred overall GPA requirement.
  3. Provide AAS degree holders with an individualized transfer credit evaluation and assessment of credits completed and credits still needed to meet all BS degree and graduation requirements (e.g., social sciences, arts, writing intensive, diversity courses, etc.).
  4. Grant credit toward courses in the School of Nursing as outlined in Appendix A (see below). In accordance with the general college policy, one-half of the major must be completed at SUNY GCC and one-half from University at Buffalo.
  5. Provide the opportunity to earn the baccalaureate degree in Nursing with flexibility on course progression and time to degree (either one additional year or two).
  6. Guarantee that SUNY GCC students accepted in transfer under the terms of this agreement will also be subject to any special requirements applicable to students who enrolled at University at Buffalo School of Nursing as a first-year student.
  7. Publicize the 2+2 articulation both internally and externally.

SUNY Genesee Community College will:

  1. Publicize the MOU to students, faculty and professional staff in campus publications, and ensure that brochures and other printed materials are distributed to the appropriate offices.
  2. Assist in the coordination and preparation of advisement involving SUNY GCC students who want to participate in this agreement.

This agreement commences on the date of its signing and shall remain in effect until terminated by either institution. The content of the agreement will be reviewed every 5 years and updated as curricular changes are made at both institutions. Both institutions will notify each other when such changes are made.

Upper Division Credits (university graduation requirement)

Students must successfully complete at least 45 credits at the upper division (at least 300-level), including those completed within the major. Our RN to BS program is 31 upper division credits meaning 45-31=14 upper division credits needed. [Credits will satisfy the requirement if they are at least 300-level at the transfer institution AND/OR if they transfer into UB as an at least 300-level course. Check how transfer courses will articulate at UB by searching TAURUS.

Requirement is satisfied at GCC through required AAS coursework (details below).
