PhD student Lana Pasek’s article, “An integrative review of causes, manifestations and evaluation of cognitive fatigue among persons with multiple sclerosis,” was published in the inaugural issue of the Journal of the American Nurses Association - New York (JANANY). Six original research articles were published as part of their first issue.

Pasek’s integrative review of the scientific literature sought to “explore the advances in understanding cognitive fatigue in MS, as well as its causes and manifestations, and to identify the objective methodologies that best measure cognitive fatigue in MS.” She identified and reviewed 23 studies that discuss MS-related fatigue, concluding that additional research on cognitive fatigue and MS is needed – Pasek states that cognitive fatigue and physical fatigue should be considered distinct domains, and that “a clear conceptual framework for the study of fatigue in neurological conditions” and a valid, reliable instrument for use in a clinical setting are needed.
