Why UBSON?

For as long as I can remember, UB has been known for the quality of education it provides. The School of Nursing is nationally recognized while the CRNA program ranks in the top 10 nationally. People who graduate from UB say it proudly. I look forward to being a part of its rich legacy; as people travel from afar, I am blessed to have UB in my backyard.

Areas of Interest

Mentorship: as a kid growing up in an impoverished area, there were several mentors that were influential in helping me to achieve my potential. I want to give back through donating my time and resources to help children who are in similar circumstances as I experienced to also reach their potential. By being an example of hard work and dedication, it is my wish to inspire the children to become the next generation of nurses and other professions alike.

Professionally I have served as a clinical instructor, capstone preceptor and nurse orientator. I aim to continue to volunteer and stay involved with community leaders and organizers.

Professional Goals

My current goal is to complete CRNA school, then eventually become an instructor, whether clinically or academically, to help raise up the next generation of nurses and CRNAs.

Health Care Impact

The percentage of African American CRNAs in this country is extremely low. I provide representation for many who look like me but may be discouraged to apply because there are very few who look like them. As a byproduct of becoming a CRNA, I will help diversify the profession.

Grateful

This award will help me pay for a portion of my tuition, allowing me to focus on my studies. Knowing that there is money available, helps ease the stress of finances during an already stressful time. The ultimate goal is to become a CRNA, this scholarship helps to set the foundation to achieve this goal.
