Why UB?

I chose UB School of Nursing because of its solid reputation for preparing nurses to think critically and excel in their careers. UB prepares us to think like a nurse and feel confident in the clinical setting. UB also provides opportunities for mentorship and community involvement that enrich the learning experience.

Areas of Interest

I enjoy working with vulnerable and marginalized communities. My interest in working with these communities was sparked when I began working at a queer community health center in 2020.

Since joining the UB community I have volunteered at the Department of Health migrant vaccine effort, and I will participate in the upcoming Remote Area Medical trip to Knoxville, Tennessee.

Professional Goals

My professional goals are to work in critical care while also pursuing work in community health. I will continue my work with vulnerable and marginalized communities.

How will the scholarship award help you to achieve your academic and professional goals?

This scholarship award relieves a substantial burden and will allow me to dedicate myself to my studies. This scholarship award will also allow me to pursue extracurricular activities such as the Remote Area Medical trip to Knoxville, TN. Experiences outside of the classroom help to enrich the didactic content and bring it to life. I look forward to applying what I have learned in class and clinical to continue serving communities with the greatest need.

How will your pursuits help to shape or transform health care and/or nursing education, science, policy and/or practice?

I look forward to advancing in my career as a nurse and advocating for changes in policy and practice to better serve vulnerable and marginalized communities. This includes a commitment to improving healthcare access, promoting affirming care practices, and addressing disparities and the social determinants of health.
