The Nursing Undergraduate Research Summer Experience (NURSE) provides a stimulating, "hands on" research experience for UB students who are interested in nursing careers with a strong emphasis in research. During a 10-week summer research experience, students will work with a member of UB’s nursing faculty on research topics in their area of interest.

“This program offers prospective and current nursing students a unique opportunity to assist with an authentic research experience mentored by a UB School of Nursing faculty member. ”
Dr. Davina Porock, Associate Dean for Reseach and Scholarship
UB School of Nursing

One of last year’s participants, John Pender, assisted Carla Jungquist, PhD, RN, UB School of Nursing assistant professor, on her CDC funded Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System sleep study. John states, “During this ten-week experience as a research assistant I performed all CDC study protocols and learned the importance of subject privacy and study integrity." Working with Jungquist taught John how to professionally collaborate as a team member. He had the added opportunity toward the end of the program to start his own research project entitled, “Reliability of Capturing Sleep Diary Data via Wrist Worn Electronic Device” and to present at the 2014-Asssociated Professional Sleep Societies annual meeting in Minneapolis.

The NURSE program is a great way for students to gain experience the academic field of nursing. It offers students excellent networking and learning opportunities while being able to enjoy everything Buffalo’s summer has to offer.
