The Dr. Carolyn and Judge Mark Farrell Fund for Genetics in Healthcare

This fund aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation at the intersection of genetics and healthcare. Students awarded funding must collaborate with a program or department at the University at Buffalo (UB) that is engaged in genetics-related healthcare initiatives. The collaboration must include a member/resource with genetics expertise, such as in the MS in Genetic Counseling Program in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

For example, funding may be awarded to:

• A graduate nursing student working with another UB program in genetics/genomics.
• An MS Genetic Counseling student collaborating with a graduate-level nursing student.

Submit a completed application to the Office of Student Services in the School of Nursing.

• Personal essay (750 words max), which should include the following:
  • A description of your study or project focus.
  • Information about your current or intended collaborators.
  • An overview of your research methodology (qualitative, quantitative or mixed method).

• Selection of the recipient will be made by the Dean of the School of Nursing in conjunction with another UB faculty member with genetics expertise. 
• Applicants selected for funding will be notified in writing.

• Students who receive this award will be expected to communicate their research findings through a poster or thesis presentation, dissertation, or DNP project dissemination.  
• One award will be presented each calendar year.
