This award recognizes Mann's many contributions, including her innovative thinking, leadership skills in education, and scholarship to professional nursing in Western New York, particularly to the PNAWNY. Mann has been an active member of the Western New York Professional Nurses Association since 2005. She was chair of the Research and Scholarly Activities Committee from 2010-2014 and served as a committee member from 2005-2010. She also served as a Nominating Committee member from 2005-2007.

“I feel truly honored as a recipient of this award, as there are so many outstanding nurses in leadership and education in the Western New York area,” Mann says. “I have been really fortunate to have been mentored by and worked with so many outstanding faculty and practice partners throughout my career. Without these collaborative relationships, my accomplishments would not have happened.”

As an educator, Mann has served in leadership positions at Daemen College and UB School of Nursing and is a member of UB’s Interprofessional Education Leadership Team. In her role as assistant dean of undergraduate studies in UB School of Nursing, she led the undergraduate curriculum revisions for a concept-based curriculum in the school’s prelicensure programs. She has also been instrumental in establishing important community partnerships that has enabled the School to expand its Dedicated Education Units, which provides students with hands-on experience in hospital and community settings under the guidance of nurses and nurse faculty.

Mann also continues to be engaged in research that improves clinical practice and patient care, including research that focuses on improving clinical judgment in critical care using high fidelity simulation. She is currently a Principal Investigator n two projects: one aims to understand the experience of patients and families transitioning to palliative and hospice care services, and the other seeks to develop clinical judgment through virtual simulation for staff nurses.

In addition to her service to the University, Mann serves as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care, is on the nurse residency advisory board for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Care, and has most recently been invited to serve on the nurse residency advisory board for the Buffalo VA. She currently serves on the New York State Area Health Education Centers advisory board and was previously a program evaluator for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

The PNAWNY works to promote the delivery of quality health care and the advancement of nursing as a profession through educational programming, scholarships and special events that serve the nurses of our region. Mann will be honored during the PNAWNY Annual Awards Banquet on July 27.
