Chosen for “excelling in their chapter-related activities,” UB’s Gamma Kappa chapter earned the honor society’s praise for its outstanding “accomplishment given the extraordinary circumstances during the biennium.”

“We are excited and so pleased to receive this prestigious award,” says Janice Jones, clinical professor and program coordinator of the MS in Nursing Leadership and Health Care Systems Program. “It is truly an honor to be recognized for our hard work and that of the chapter board members.”

Sigma Theta Tau International is the only honor society for nurses in the world. There are approximately 540 chapters across the globe.

Jones, who is Sigma Theta Tau’s chapter director, praised her colleague Gale Klinshaw, clinical lab professor in the nursing school and Gamma Kappa chapter president, for working tirelessly to meet the criteria for chapter excellence.

Sigma’s Chapter Key Award is given to chapters who demonstrate extraordinary chapter excellence in carrying out the mission of Sigma. To qualify, an extensive application must be submitted attesting to the chapter’s organizational health.

Chapters must excel in chapter-related activities such as membership recruitment and retention, publicity and programming, professional and leadership development, and local, national and international collaboration.

This is Gamma Kappa’s first Chapter Key Award. The application was submitted by Jones and Klinshaw, who chronicled the activities of the chapter for the 2019-21 biennium.

Jones will receive a banner and the key award from Sigma President Richard Ricciardi at Sigma’s biennial convention in Indianapolis.
