"I have been [with UB SON] since 2010 and it is the best 'job' I have ever had. I have finally found my niche in teaching undergraduate nursing ... I love the students and getting to know each and every one of them. I start them off in their very first semester in nursing school as juniors and then I do not teach them again until their final semester senior year. To see the growth in them is such a fulfilling experience for me.
"The quality of the faculty and students is of a higher standard than the other nursing programs in Western New York. Our emphasis on research, evidence based practice, patient safety and quality of care also makes us unique. I have heard from management and education personnel at other hospitals that they prefer hiring a UB graduate over other graduates. In this constantly changing health care environment, UB is producing and developing our future nurses to lead and diffuse improvements in health care.
"My quest is to prepare the next generation of health care professionals for the complexity of health care and equip them with the tools to provide their patients with safe, high quality, patient-centered care to decrease adverse patient outcomes and stop preventable deaths. Patients continue to die from health care associated conditions such as infections, pressure ulcers and falls. We continue to integrate the Quality and Safety for Education in Nursing (QSEN) competencies and other evidence-based initiatives in both the clinical and theory courses to help produce this new generation of RNS who will be role models and transformational leaders for the future of the profession."
