Experience what it takes to be a nurse!

The University at Buffalo School of Nursing is hosting a program that gives Buffalo Public high school students from grades 9 through 11 the opportunity to explore career opportunities in the nursing field. This half day program will include interactive learning and preparation for motivated high school students to expand their knowledge of the field of nursing.

About Our Nursing Summer Program

Participation in this program does not guarantee admission to the University at Buffalo or the University at Buffalo School of Nursing.

The University at Buffalo’s School of Nursing (SON) Summer Program is a unique program that brings high school students from Buffalo Public Schools onto campus to experience a wide range of learning experiences. These include:

  • Lab simulation
  • Panel of nurses in various steps of their career
  • Pathway to becoming a nurse
  • Skills planning
  • Meet with undergraduate admissions advisors

Eligibility and Application


Admission is competitive and is based on the following criteria: 
  • Open to Buffalo Public School students only (30 seats available)
  • Must have a strong interest in math and science, the health sciences or nursing
  • Essay
  • One letter of recommendation (from your guidance counselor)
  • List of extracurricular activities, honors and awards
  • Transcript reflecting B- letter grade (83-86%) or better


Deadline and Notification

  • Complete and submit your application by May 1, 2023
  • You will be notified around June 1, 2023
  • You will be asked to confirm your seat by June 15.

Letter of Recommendation

In the application, enter a valid email address for a school guidance counselor who will receive a link for an electronic letter of recommendation. If able, your recommender should upload your high school transcript. If unable, you can upload an unofficial transcript in your application form or your school counselor can email the Office of Student Services:
