Meet the 2023-2024 Nursing Student Organization President

Student organizations offer unique pathways for peer support, networking and professional development, including leadership opportunities.

UB School of Nursing has three nursing student organizations: the Undergraduate Nursing Student Organization (NSO), the Multicultural Nursing Student Association (MNSA) and Graduate Nurse Organization (GNO).

NSO president, Taylor Allen, shares her professional goals, including how she plans to lead the organization this academic year.

Nursing Student Organization President: Taylor Allen

Why did you become a nurse?

Taylor Allen.

The simple answer is that I love to help people.  My mother is a nurse, and as a child, I admired how she has been able to help and educate those in my family about physical and mental illness. I want to be able to provide some happiness to those who are not in the happiest of circumstances. What I love most about nursing is that it is a profession that encompasses compassion and empathy with immense intellectual and critical thinking. Being a nurse will challenge me every day; help me to embrace my love for learning new things; and allow me to truly care for people no matter who they are and where they have come from.

What do you believe is the mission of NSO?

As a future nurse, I truly believe in the importance of creating a positive nursing community and knowing the people you work side by side with. The NSO creates events to celebrate UB nursing students, including the pinning ceremony. It also connects nursing students with potential job opportunities through our career fair. With these events, the NSO brought our class closer together and has furthered their intellectual and professional endeavors.

What do you hope to achieve as president?

My goal as NSO president is to enhance the relationships and spirit of the UB SON community through our activities. Organizing events such as Red Cross Blood drives and managing UB School of Nursing clothing orders will bring our goals into reality.  Another goal is to reach the intended nursing major population to inform them of the benefits of UB’s nursing program and educate them on what being a nurse entails.

How can students get involved with NSO?

All undergraduate students in the UB School of Nursing are welcome to join the NSO. Information and events from the NSO are posted on our UBLinked and Instagram. Intended nursing majors can get involved by attending NSO workshops and Q&As published on our Instagram. Join the UBLinked for more information; questions are always encouraged!
